Dentures, Bridges, and Crowns
Missing or damaged teeth can affect your confidence and keep you from smiling. In addition to those emotional effects, it can also be uncomfortable to chew and to talk with missing teeth. Fortunately, many solutions are now available to replace missing natural teeth. Crowns, bridges, and dentures are tools that your dentist can use to help restore your smile.
Complete and Partial Dentures
There are two types of dentures available, partial and complete. When some of your natural teeth remain, partial dentures can be used. Complete dentures are made to replace all of your teeth entirely. Dentures are carefully created to fit your mouth and resemble your natural smile. Both types of dentures are removable, and an excellent option for those missing more than a few teeth. Dentures will periodically need to be replaced but can last many years with proper care.
Similar to partial dentures, bridges are made to replace several teeth. Bridges are used mainly when missing teeth are all on the same side of the mouth. Unlike partial dentures, bridges are fixed, meaning they are permanent and not removable. A bridge, while considered a permanent fixture, may need to be replaced after several years.
A crown is a cap, often made of ceramic, that is placed permanently over your tooth. Crowns are used commonly on teeth that have received a root canal. They can help return your tooth the original shape and size.
